The nightmare continues for the Detroit Pistons as they collected loss number 28 against the Celtics after blowing a 21-point lead.
The Pistons have tied the Philadelphia 76ers for the longest winless streak in NBA history. Between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, the Philadelphia-based franchise had lost 28 games in a row, but the losses were spread across two seasons.
Now, the Pistons are doing even worse, as their 28th straight loss came in the same season, and they are now one loss away from an all-time record.
After a great first half, the Pistons were leading 66-47 at halftime. Once again, it was Cade Cunningham who led the team to such a strong beginning – he scored 31 points in total -. However, in the second half, Detroit collapsed once again, and the Celtics were able to jump back and win the game 128-122.
After the game, Pistons coach Monty Williams praised the team and said that what they did was “admirable”.
“I just told them that it takes a lot of character and integrity to do what they’re doing,” said Williams. “I’ve been in the league awhile and I’ve seen teams give in to circumstances that are less than what we’re dealing with. That was admirable.
“I hurt for them,” Williams added. “We feel like we’re getting so close to not winning one game, but winning a lot of games if we play that way.”
