The Washington Wizards have decided to make a change in the head coach role after a 7-36 record so far this season. Wes Unseld Jr. will be replaced, but he remains with the team.

It has not been an easy season for the Wizards so far, with just 7 wins. Despite the poor performance of the team, Unseld will stay within the organization and will cover the advisory role in the front office. Meanwhile, Brian Keefe has been named the interim head coach.

A post published on X by NBA writer for YahooSports Vincent Goodwill reads: “After several thoughtful conversations with Wes, we determined together that a change was needed for the benefit of the team,” said Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger.

“Wes embodies the characteristics we value in our organization, and his vast basketball experience will be an asset to the front office as we progress toward our long-term goals.

“We are thankful that he will continue his contributions to our organization and community.”

Finally, Unseld also spent some words regarding his experience with the Wizards in the last seasons.

“I am grateful to have served as head coach of the Washington Wizards. I look forward to this new opportunity to work toward our organization’s continued progress.”

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium believes that Keefe will remain as head coach until the end of the year before the team starts looking for a new head coach.
