Aston Martin technical director Mike Krack expects tighter gaps between all the teams in 2024 as the regulations will remain the same.

Usually, when there are big rule changes, it’s normal to expect some variations in the pecking order. However, when things remain the same, it’s not common to see such differences in performance for each team.

That is what Krack believes since 2024 will just be a continuation of what the teams have studied throughout 2022 and 2023. Even though some outfits like Ferrari and Mercedes had opted for different designs and this year they might go toward a Red Bull philosophy, Krack doesn’t think the order will change that much.

Moreover, he feels that instead, the field will be closer together, with tighter gaps, especially in qualifying.

“I think all in all, if you look at it, usually what happens if the technical regs stay [the same] the field is moving closer together year-on-year.

“If the cars are close together, it’s really the small details that make the difference on the grid position. [The tight gaps in qualifying] will only get smaller, I think, over the years to come.

“So, to come back to the original question: I will be surprised if there are big deviations to where we are now.”
