The 2023 F1 season was supposed to be Alfa Romeo’s time to shine, but it turned into a puzzling maze of missed opportunities. Instead of soaring to new heights, they were more like a hiccup in the race.

Things took a detour…

Despite sticking with Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu to minimize crash damage (smart move…or so they thought), the season didn’t unfold as the team had envisioned.

Even with a car that had a few quiet upgrades, they struggled to keep up with rivals, missing out on regular points.

Bottas, the team’s alpha, outscored Zhou 10 to 6, and in qualifying, he maintained a 16-6 advantage over his teammate, a slight improvement from the previous year. I guess we can call that a mini-victory.

Overall, the team slipped behind AlphaTauri, securing points only four times by the halfway mark. Ouch.

But Fear Not! The Revival is Nigh!

Despite the 2023 rollercoaster, 2024 looks promising for this team. James Key, the team’s new tech guru poached from McLaren, is bringing a fresh perspective. The winter break is the perfect time for a full-scale review of the car, with hopes of leaving the speed bumps behind.

Team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi is practically radiating optimism: “We will have a completely new car from chassis to suspension, everything, all the areas,” Bravi stated that the team is eager to leave behind the limitations of their previous concept and embrace a revamped approach for the upcoming season.

New car, new vibes, I guess, maybe they can make “Out with the old, in with the speed” their new campaign slogan

Aerodynamics: The Wind Beneath Their Wings

In F1, wind tunnel testing is like the secret sauce for success. Alfa Romeo finishing P9 last season means it’s time to hit the wind tunnel. Hard. The Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions (ATR) system resets every six months, offering a lifeline for teams lower in the standings. This is a much-needed advantage for a team with hopes of rebuilding.
