Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will join Scuderia Ferrari in 2025 alongside Charles Leclerc.

The world was stormed by unexpected breaking news on February 1st, reporting that Hamilton and Ferrari were close to a deal for 2025. In past years this rumor used to circulate in the paddock, but it was nothing serious, just speculations.

However, this time the sources were pretty reliable, and chaos burst out on social media. Immediately, the feeling was that the news was more than a rumor, and Sky Sports F1 reported that the deal was done, without any official statement by Formula 1 or the two teams.

Chaos didn’t stop there, though. Another rumor suggested that Hamilton could join Ferrari already in 2024, leaving Carlos Sainz without a seat.

Ultimately, it was announced that the British world champion will join the Maranello-based team in 2025, crowning Hamilton’s dream of driving for the Italian outfit.

Right after the official announcement at 7 PM GMT, Lewis Hamilton spoke about his incredible experience with Mercedes and what the team means to him. He also added that he felt it was the right time to accept a new challenge.

“I have had an amazing 11 years with this team and I’m so proud of what we have achieved together. Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old. It’s a place where I have grown up, so making the decision to leave was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.

“But the time is right for me to take this step and I’m excited to be takin on a new challenge. I will be forever grateful for the incredible support of my Mercedes family, especially Toto for his friendship and leadership and I want to finish on a higher together.

“I am 100% committed to delivering the best performance I can this season and making my last year with the Silver Arrows, one to remember.”
