Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll hopes to catch up to teammate Fernando Alonso after a finding difficulties in 2023.
Last season was one to remember for Aston Martin, as they finished fifth in the constructors’ championship, behind McLaren.
The British squad saw great performances at the start of the year, especially from Alonso, who even achieved several podiums and challenged those at the front.
However, the performance gains faded away significantly after the season break, and McLaren’s godlike recovery was no good for them.
Additionally, Stroll found it difficult to surpass or even match his teammate’s performance, raising questions about the team’s future as it is owned by his father, Lawrence Stroll. There was also speculation that he was going to be replaced for 2024.
It didn’t happen, but Stroll knows that he needs to improve his form – the pressure of a Champion alongside him is not helping.
The Canadian said he was “lacking some speed last year, for sure.”
“He [Alonso] was just quicker. So I have some ideas on where to work on, some things that I want to improve on, for sure, in that regard.
“And also, I don’t like to use the word luck, but I think we had a lot of misfortune last year and I think that kind of made things more challenging.”
Stroll said the teams needs to address the technical reliability issues that it faced during the 2023 season.
“When we were fighting for good positions last year, there were a lot of races where we had technical issues. We had things [that] just didn’t go our way. So, we want to just build on last year.”
Apart from the technical side of things, Stroll considered he needed to “come back a little bit stronger, and think about some of the races where I felt physically I could have been stronger.
“These kinds of things, just the usual stuff. And then, every year it’s a new year. So going into this year I learn, I evolve, I think about what I can do better, how I can do better.”
