Back in January, Charles Leclerc signed a long-term contract extension with Ferrari, not specifying its duration. Now, he explained why he committed his future to the Scuderia.
The Monégasque joined the team back in 2019, and even though he immediately showed his talent, he hasn’t been able to win a championship with the Italian team yet.
A part of that is due to mistakes made directly by him, and another part, maybe more than 50%, amid the lack of competitiveness of Ferrari’s Formula 1 cars. Despite that, though, Leclerc explained that he decided to stay with the team long-term as he “fully” believes in the future projects.
“But more than anything, I think what made me sign for a longer contract is because I believe in the project. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have done that.
“I believe we have the best chance in order to become the best car on the grid in the next years. So this is why I renewed with Ferrari.”
Leclerc will also have a new teammate in 2025, Lewis Hamilton. The Brit’s experience in car development, and having him as a figure to learn from, might help both the Scuderia and Leclerc achieve better results in the upcoming years.
