Yuki Tsunoda took the new VCARB 01 for a spin around Misano’s track in Italy, and admitted that the car already feels “great” and better compared to last year.

Last year, AlphaTauri (now Visa Cash App RB) only finished eighth in the constructors’ standings and struggled throughout the whole season. The first improvements only arrived around Singapore, also thanks to new parts provided directly by Red Bull.

Now, after just a few kilometers with the new car, Tsunoda admitted that the feeling is different, and he can already see some improvements.

“It’s feeling great on the track, the first run with the VCARB 01 went all smooth,” said the Japanese.

“I already felt a couple of steps of improvement compared to last year and a really big step I felt compared to the same time last year. I really enjoyed also the new car with the new livery and new team, so it was a positive day.

“I would say overall, it’s an easier handling car and just didn’t feel any outstanding issues or strong characteristics and movements. So far, I’m feeling positive.”

Daniel Ricciardo added that it felt great to finally get back in the car after the break and that he cannot wait to start another phase of the team’s history.

“Being back with Red Bull was already something that made me feel whole again, being back with that family. And now this year it’s another phase of this team’s ‘career’.

“It’s a time where we’re no longer seen as just a Red Bull kind of junior team. It’s a team that’s standing on its own two feet.”
