Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz said the team is focused on “long runs” and not so much on finding more performance out of the SF-24.
The Spaniard is driving for the Maranello-based squad in the afternoon session of the second day of pre-season testing.
On his first impressions about the new car, he said that it is “doing what we wanted it to after the wind tunnel work.”
“[It is] a more driveable car, with wind sensitivity and predictability and driveability of the car…
“For me, it’s more focused on the long runs. You saw last year we had some poles, so…” he said.
The morning session was ended earlier due to problems with a drain cover which was hit by Charles Leclerc, causing damage to his Ferrari.
“I was looking at it [thinking] ‘yellow flag it, yellow flag it, yellow flag it, someone’s going to take it!’ Boom, my team mate came and took it.
“So, I felt like it could have been avoided in a way. I missed it by one lap because I went to speak to a marshal and just when I was speaking to him, ‘yellow flag it…’ So I feel a bit to blame.”
As a result, the afternoon session got an additional hour of time and started at 12 CET.
