Red Bull driver Sergio Perez said the team still has issues to fix after finishing second at the Bahrain Grand Prix, behind teammate and winner Max Verstappen.

Perez said P2 was “the maximum” he “could have achieved,” blaming it on a “tricky race with the management of the tires.”

The Mexican driver hopes there is “plenty we will learn from tonight’s race which will be important for the championship.”

“But overall, I think it’s a great way to start the season,” he admitted.

Perez insisted that tire management was the main issue during the race, saying that it was “really compound to compound, the amount of sliding we were having…”

However, he also highlighted other issues the team faced over the course of the 57 laps around the Bahrain International Circuit.

“We were having some issues with the engine braking and the driveability, which is not easy around here because there’s plenty of low speed.

“I’m sure we’re going to analyze all of this tonight and make sure we learn for Jeddah.”
