Jos Verstappen declared that, due to the ongoing situation regarding Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, the latter is “causing problems” for the team and the Dutch doesn’t believe it’s a positive thing if the Britton remains.
As many people already know, Horner has been at the center of an investigation after that a female employee accused him of inappropriate behavior. An independent barrister led the investigation and cleared the Red Bull team principal of any wrongdoing.
Despite that, things took a wrong turn once again, as an anonymous email was sent to the media and important F1 figures containing documents intended to put Horner in a bad spot to probably force him to resign. However, the veracity of those files hasn’t been confirmed.
As the tension remains high inside the Milton Keynes-based squad, Jos Verstappen shared his thoughts and speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “There is tension here while he remains in position.
“The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can’t go on the way it is. It will explode. He is playing the victim, when he is the one causing the problems.”
Considering the importance that Jos Verstappen’s son has inside the team, these comments might come a bit unexpectedly. Despite what his father said, though, Max Verstappen referred to Horner as “an incredible team boss”.
“Listen, when I look at how Christian operates within the team, he has been an incredible team boss.
“So absolutely, from the performance side of things, you can’t even question that. So that’s what I’m also dealing with.
“I speak to Christian a lot. And also, of course, throughout the weekend here, he’s fully committed to the team.
“He’s also here for the performance, of course. Probably a little bit distracted.
“But like I said before, we just focus on the performance side of things. And that’s how we all work together.”
