BWT Alpine F1 Team- 2024 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, Friday.

After a disastrous start to the season, which saw the technical director and the head of aerodynamics Matt Harman and Dirk de Beer resign from their roles, Alpine revealed a new technical structure to get back on the right track.

Already after winter testing, Alpine didn’t look great in terms of raw performance. Their single-lap pace wasn’t competitive, and not even their race simulations were promising. Then, during the Bahrain GP, all those fears became reality, and Alpine proved to be the slowest team on the grid at the moment.

The new structure sees three different figures for each of the following roles: Technical Director (Performance), Technical Director (Aerodynamics), and Technical Director (Engineering). The names that Alpine chose for each position are Ciaron Pilbeam, David Wheater, and Joe Burnell.

The French outfit team principal remains Bruno Famin, who stated: “We have decided to make these organizational changes as we can clearly see that we are not where we want nor need to be in terms of performance level, and it is time to take another step in terms of organization and people.

“The new three-pillared structure with three Technical Directors, each specializing in different areas, will bring better work and collaboration across our technical areas and contribute to delivering performance from the factories to the racetrack.

“I trust fully in the abilities of Joe, David, and Ciaron to work closely together in bringing the team the performance and improvements that it needs.

“Finally, I would like to thank Matt and Dirk for their efforts over the last couple of years at the team and wish them the very best in the next chapter of their careers.”
