Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko is facing a potential suspension by the organization following the launch of an investigation surrounding the Christian Horner controversy.

Marko is suspected of leaking details which allowed the investigation into Horner to become public, unleashing broad media coverage which severely impacted the team principal’s image as well as the brand’s, as many criticized the way the process was handled.

Horner was being investigated by ‘inappropriate conduct’ but was cleared of wrongdoings by an independent barrister.

Alleged evidence containing chat screenshots and pictures of the team principal were also sent to the media during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, although Action Sports Network understands such material was not leaked by Marko.

Speaking to ORF, Marko responded to the rumors saying, “how can I put it… It’s difficult to judge, but let’s put it this way: in the end, it’s not up to me to decide what to do.

“The theoretical possibility is there, whether you want it or not.

“It’s such a complex issue. This world championship will be difficult enough, there are 24 races and we have to concentrate on that.

Verstappen ‘loyal’ to Marko

Team driver Max Verstappen said his loyalty to Marko is “very big, and I’ve always expressed this to everyone within the team, everyone high up, that he’s an important part in my decision-making for all the time in t he future as well within the team,” according to Motorsport Week.

“It’s very important that he stays within the team, including of course everyone else, because you know, it’s a whole team effort.

“It’s very important that we keep key people together because I feel like if such an important pillar falls away, that’s also what I’ve said to the team, that is not good for my situation as well.”
