Red Bull’s Max Verstappen said he’s ‘really happy’ after achieving his first pole position at the Jedda Corniche Circuit for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Verstappen faced difficulties in previous seasons which denied him the pole in Jeddah. However, things are different this year as the Dutchman will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix from the front of the grid.
Despite his already dominant pace in previous sessions, the Red Bull driver said the team “improved the car a little bit overnight,” which gave him “more confidence to attack the high speed corners.”
“Around here it depends on your confidence and how much you can go on the limit,” Verstappen added.
“Today I felt very comfortable with the car… In qualifying it’s pretty crazy how fast you can go around here, especially my first lap in Q3.
“I was very happy with the lap, it was a bit like the failed 2021 lap, but I had a lot of fun and the car was behaving really well.”
Speaking about Saturday, Verstappen said, “we have seen in the past there have been a lot of crazy races around here, a lot can happen.
“Normally, people always say it is a one-stop, but it’s not like that around here. There are a lot of straights, but I am confident that with the race pace we have, the car will work really well.”
