Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said that Oliver Bearman will have many more challenges to face in his career. Despite his great debut in Jeddah, though, it is still too early to talk about a possible move to Ferrari for the young Britton.

Vasseur praised Bearman for the great work he did less than a week ago by replacing Carlos Sainz and delivering a good result for the team. However, he also pointed out that Ferrari already has a driver pairing Charles Leclerc for the future, that is Lewis Hamilton.

Therefore, it is too early to talk about a future where Bearman could drive for the Scuderia, and the Britton needs to focus on his current challenge, Formula 2.

“Don’t start to speak about after Lewis Hamilton, Lewis is still not in the team!

“But it’s a good signal for Ollie for sure, it’s an important milestone. In Melbourne and Imola, he will be back on the F2 project, and the most important challenge for Ollie will be this one.

“He will start soon the FP1 sessions with Haas, and this will be important also for us to give him experience and mileage in the car. But, for sure, with this one [Jeddah] he has the result in the pocket already.”

Vasseur continued by saying that Bearman needs to concentrate to do well day by day, and Jeddah was just a step, the journey is still long. The young driver will also take part in some free practice sessions with Haas, and Vasseur is sure that if he’s going to perform well, he will surely have a bright future.

“You have to consider Jeddah is a step, not the final target. He did well this weekend, but he will have other challenges in front of him in the future with F2.

“He will do a couple of FP1s with us and Haas during the season and all of you, including me, in six months’ time we won’t speak anymore about Jeddah, we’ll speak about Mexico, Brazil [sic], and if he’s doing well or not.

“And every single day will be a new challenge. But for sure, if he’s keeping the same approach as today, it will go well.”
