Williams driver Logan Sargeant said his withdrawal from the 2024 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is his “hardest moment” of his career.

Sargeant was withdrawn from the race by his team because his car was given to teammate Alexander Albon, who heavily crashed during the first practice session of the weekend, causing damage impossible to quickly fix.

Williams only brought no additional chassis for the GP, meaning that Albon’s crash left only one car available for the team to enter on Sunday’s race around Melbourne.

Speaking with the press about the decision, Sargeant said it was “the hardest moment I can remember in my career and it’s absolutely not easy.”

“I am, however, completely here for the team and will continue to contribute in any way that I can this weekend to maximize what we can do.”

Speaking about the situation, Albon said that “no driver would want to give up his seat” and that he “would never want anything like this to happen.”

However, it happened, and Albon will race with Sargeant’s car for Australia.

“Logan has always been a consummate professional and a team player from day one, and this won’t be an easy one for him to take.

“At this point though, I cannot dwell on the situation and my only job now is to maximize our potential this weekend and work with the whole team to make sure we do the best job possible.”
