Max Verstappen admitted that due to a damaged floor after FP1, it was a bit of a “messy” Friday, but despite Ferrari looking strong, there is nothing to be worried about.
The three-time world champion didn’t seem as comfortable as he usually is around the streets of Melbourne. He went wide at the exit of turn 10 during FP1, damaging the floor of his RB20. That caused him to lose time on Friday, but the Dutchman still managed to finish second overall.
“Unfortunately it was a little messy because of what happened in FP1.
“I went wide and damaged the floor, and also the chassis, so it took a bit long to fix that unfortunately, so I lost like 20 minutes.
“But the turnaround was very quick as a team, so I more or less completed the program still. In the long run, I would have liked maybe a few more laps, but we were missing 20 minutes, that’s how it goes.”
Verstappen admitted that Ferrari is looking strong but Red Bull still has a few things to improve and fix, therefore there is room for improvement.
“It was alright. I think Ferrari is quick but from our side, there are also a few more things that we can fine-tune.
“So nothing crazy and nothing worrying.”
