Sergio Perez was close to completing a Red Bull 1-2 in qualifying, but a not-so-perfect Q3 lap only allowed him to clinch P3.

During the post-qualifying interviews, Perez admitted that a small mistake in the entry of turn 1 didn’t allow him to make a perfect lap, and he found himself behind Carlos Sainz.

“I think there was definitely a bit more in the car. My first sector wasn’t great, especially turn 1 I didn’t hook the whole combination, which is around a tenth, a tenth and a half.

“I’m happy, though, seeing how the weekend went, and I think tomorrow we will fight against Ferrari. Degradation is also a factor, so the starting position is not that relevant at the moment.”
