Carlos Sainz incredibly won the Australian GP and is still jobless for the next season. Christian Horner hinted that Red Bull might be interested in such a strong driver, the only one who beat Red Bull in the last year.

Sainz will leave Ferrari at the end of the year, as Lewis Hamilton is set to join the Scuderia in 2025. Therefore, the Spaniard must perform well to find a contract for the next season, and winning just two weeks after getting surgery is surely one way of doing it.

“I think we want to field the best pairing that we can in Red Bull Racing and sometimes you’ve got to look outside the pool as well.

“You’ve had a very fast, unemployed driver win today’s race. So the market is reasonably fluid with certain drivers.”

However, Horner added that Perez has performed well so far, and in Australia he was unlucky as a tear-off got stuck under his floor compromising his race, so Red Bull is not in a rush to find a driver.

“Look, based on a performance like that you couldn’t rule any possibility out, so I think you just want to take the time [to decide].

“Obviously, Checo was compromised today. He’s had a great start to the season, too, so we’re not in any desperate rush.

“Carlos is the only driver that’s beaten Red Bull in the last [year], so he appears to be our nemesis.”
