The Formula One Academy was founded in 2022 as a car racing championship for women only.
The series was established to help women move from karting to single-seater racing, where they would eventually have the chance to drive Formula 4 cars. The winner of the inaugural season was Marta Garcia in 2023.
Everything you should know about the championship
Five teams are competing in the F2 and F3 championships. Three drivers are hired by each team, creating a grid of fifteen vehicles. This year’s starting teams are MP Motorsport, Prema Racing, Rodin Motorsport, Campos Racing, and ART Grand Prix.
It was decided that each of the ten Formula 1 teams would sponsor a driver for the 2024 season, and the driver would don the team colors on both their car and their suit. After that, five championship sponsors (including Tommy Hilfiger, Puma, and many more) would sponsor the final five drivers.
The seven rounds of the 2024 season are scheduled to coincide with the Formula 1 World Championship weekends. They will be held in Jeddah, Miami, Barcelona, Zandvoort, Singapore, Qatar, and the season finale will be in Abu Dhabi. There are two races, a qualifying session, and a free practice session for each round.
The series is similar to the Formula 2 and Formula 3 titles, which imply that all single-seaters will have the same chassis, engines, and tires. This is a Tatuus F4-T421 chassis with tires from Pirelli and a 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine producing 165 horsepower, built by Autotecnica.
Points system
The driver who clinches the pole position will get 2 points. Moreover, similar to the other categories, the driver with the best lap in the race will receive an extra point if she places among the top 10. Both races are affected by this.
The point system is the same as the Formula 1 one: 25 points for the winner, 18 points for the second, then the third gets 15 points, the fourth 12 points, the fifth 10 points, the sixth 8 points, the seventh 6 points, the eighth 4 points, the ninth 2 points, and the tenth 1 point.
