Lando Norris finished the Japanese qualifying session in P3 behind the two Red Bulls. He feels McLaren started the weekend the right way and aims for a podium finish tomorrow.
Right after qualifying, he admitted that the car was “good” and that he was happy with his performance on a single lap.
“It’s always exciting, we had a good car today so I could fight. We did some good laps, especially in Q3, so I’m very happy with today.
“It’s always enjoyable here in front of the fans and a good one for us. We had a good race last weekend so nice to still be here.
“Of course,” he said when asked whether he aims for a podium finish on Sunday. “We’ve had a good car all weekend, and we’ve made good steps forward. We’re trying to catch the Red Bulls, but yeah they are doing a good job, so fair play to them.
“But we’re working hard, and the hard work is paying off slowly, so we’ll keep pushing. Today’s a good start to the weekend, but tomorrow is the main job.”
