The Japanese GP was a tough one for the Silver Arrows, as the two drivers ended the race in seventh and ninth position.
The team principal Toto Wolff is worried about the rest of the season referring to the first stint of the race with the hard compound. However, Mercedes’s main man is also seeing something positive about the other two stints of the race.
The words of the Mercedes team principal
“We ended up where we started, and it was just very difficult,” Wolff told Sky Sports F1. “We had a second and third stint that was super quick and we would’ve been racing for a podium but an atrocious first stint. We need to find out what it was, was it too hot, were we overmanaging.”
“I think it was the right thing to do at the beginning because it looked pretty stable in terms of lap times,” he said.
“They were not pulling away too much, the direct competitors, but then it suddenly dropped like two seconds a lap and two and a half second per lap. At that moment it was clear it wouldn’t last.”
Wolff is looking to give different results to his drivers, in particular, Lewis Hamilton can’t be satisfied after the race, he was also in front of his teammate George Russell after the first stint.
