Sergio Perez admitted being “pretty relaxed” about his future in Formula 1 as he thinks it’s “only a matter of time” before he knows Red Bull’s decision about him.

The Mexican seemed in great shape at the start of this season. Even though he always finished behind Max Verstappen, he is doing a great job, better than last year, and being as close as possible to the Dutchman is exactly what Red Bull wants from him.

In Australia, he didn’t shine and got outperformed by both Ferraris and McLarens, but Christian Horner later revealed that Perez’s race was compromised by a tear-off being stuck underneath his RB20.

The Red Bull driver is satisfied with what he has achieved so far in the sport, and he expects the team will take a decision “within a month.”

“I am pretty relaxed about it,” he told Sky Sports F1 after the race in Japan. “My main focus is in F1 and whatever comes next, I’m really pleased with what I’ve done in the sport so far.

“I believe it will be a matter of time, obviously the driver market is moving and the next few weeks are going to be a lot of movement for sure, so I expect within a month to really know what I’m doing next year.”
