Helmut Marko shared his opinion regarding Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez’s performances at the Japanese GP, admitting that he was very happy with what they achieved.
Tsunoda gifted RB F1 Team another crucial point as his teammate Daniel Ricciardo crashed out on the first lap after making contact with Alexander Albon. The Japanese driver is showing great consistency and pace in the first part of the season, and Marko believes his home Grand Prix weekend was as good as the one of Max Verstappen or Fernando Alonso.
“Yuki got away sensationally well at the second start,” Marko wrote in a comment for Speedweek.
“His overtaking maneuvers were the show of the day. The fans were completely over the moon.
“His weekend was on a par with Max, [Fernando] Alonso and co. [He was] faultless, a super performance under the pressure of his home race.”
Marko also praised a “very solid” Perez, whom he believes is having “the best season” with Red Bull so far.
“Checo was also very solid,” Marko said.
“He was unlucky at the pit stop, but he got himself back into the game with a great maneuver against Hamilton in the 130R corner.
“He is definitely having his best season with us so far.”
