Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris completed a McLaren 1-2 in FP3 after a chaotic session, that was red-flagged twice.
It was a slow start to the session, as it usually is for FP3, with only a few cars hitting the track. Both Red Bulls went out with mediums, while Ferrari used the soft tires.
Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, and Max Verstappen exchanged the first position in the early stages of the session. At the time being, it was the Monégasque who was the fastest, with Verstappen right behind. Then, Sainz also improved and snatched P1 by just 0.020s.
As the day progressed, all the other teams went out on track as well. However, the session was red-flagged since Fernando Alonso hit the barriers at the exit of the last corner.
The session was resumed briefly after. Oscar Piastri got closer to P1, just 0.190s behind. In the last stages of the session, everybody went out to try and perform a qualifying lap.
It was the most exciting time of the session, but Sergio Perez hit the wall at the Variante Alta and the session was red-flagged. Before that, Piastri got the lead of the session by more than 0.5s. However, the marshals were quick to remove the Mexican’s car and the session was resumed.
There was a lot of traffic and the times were compromised by that. Lando Norris went up to P2, and no one improved.
