Lando Norris dominated in qualifying, finishing first ahead of Oscar Piastri and George Russell. Max Verstappen struggled as he only qualified in P7.
Q1
The first few attempts of qualifying showed almost the same results that were displayed during the last free practice session. Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes were all close to each other, while for Red Bull, only Max Verstappen could keep up the pace.
Lando Norris went first fastest, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz right behind. Verstappen was fourth, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton not too far. Oscar Piastri seemed to struggle as well, as he was 0.577s behind his teammate in P1.
Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly, and Esteban Ocon completed the top 10. Sergio Perez was struggling, as he was only in P19.
Only the first three stayed in the garage, while all the other drivers went out for another lap. Franco Colapinto and Kevin Magnussen almost crashed as they lost control of the car and went on the gravel, but they both managed to save it and continue.
Yuki Tsunoda, Lance Stroll, Colapinto, Valtteri Bottas, and Guanyu Zhou were the first five drivers eliminated.
Q2
The second part of qualifying started a bit late since the marshals had to clean the track from the gravel that some drivers had brought onto the surface.
After the first run, Hamilton was fastest, with Norris just 0.086s behind. Sainz was third, with Piastri right behind. Verstappen was only fifth, while Russell, Leclerc, Perez, Nico Hülkenberg, and Alexander Albon completed the top 10.
There was still time for at least one more lap, so the leaderboard could change once more.
The top ten remained the same, with the only exception that Verstappen went second-fastest, and Albon got up to P9. The eliminated drivers were: Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly, and Esteban Ocon.
Q3
Both McLarens were the fastest cars after the first run, with Norris 0.035s ahead of Piastri. Russell and Hamilton weren’t too far behind, with a gap of 0.168s and 0.200s respectively. Sainz and Leclerc were a bit further back, and then there were the two Red Bulls, with Perez ahead of Verstappen. Finally, Hülkenberg and Albon completed the leaderboard.
In the end, Norris kept the leadership and scored another pole position. Piastri was second, with Russell in third. Leclerc and Sainz only managed to finish fourth and fifth. Hamilton, after a strong Q2, was only in P6. Verstappen struggled and finished in P7, with Perez in P8, Albon and Hülkenberg in P9 and P10.
