Fernando Alonso shared his excitement in regard to Aston Martin’s new key figure Adrian Newey, saying that what Lawrence Stroll is building is truly “the team of the future”.
The news is finally official, former Red Bull’s engineer Newey decided to work for Aston Martin and he will be covering the role of Managing Technical Partner.
This is an interesting signing for the team, that aims to battle for championships starting in 2026, when the new set of regulations will debut in Formula 1.
Alonso shared how much of an important figure Newey is going to be for the British outfit, saying that everybody has a lot to learn from him. The Spaniard also highlighted how much Lawrence’s work has helped Aston Martin to grow in the last few years.
“We’ve been racing against each other for many years, but I would say that he [Newey] was more of an inspiration [than a rival],” he said during the live presentation on YouTube.
“Thanks to his talent, I as a driver and the engineers as well, we all had to raise the bar to be able to compete.
“Now it’s an incredible day for the team. Lawrence’s [Stroll] vision is taking shape with this building and with Adrian, Honda, Aramco, and the new wind tunnel this is definitely the new team of the future.
“For me, it’s going to be an incredible opportunity to work with Adrian and to keep wearing this green color, which I’m very proud of. But also, on a personal side, it’s a great opportunity to work with these people, from which you can learn so much.
“I was talking to Lance [Stroll] and told him that being able to witness this is fantastic. We are definitely learning a lot of things, both on and off track, and this is all part of our growth.”
