Alpine’s Pierre Gasly firmly continued another racing weekend by finishing in a surprising 3rd ahead of Tomorrow’s Las Vegas GP showdown.
The French driver was three and a half tenths of a second slower than the pole-sitter George Russell and will share a 2nd row of a grid with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
The podium setter from Brazil branded Las Vegas’ qualifying session as an ‘unexpected’ result for the team despite knowing that the last flying lap was good.
“Honestly, we didn’t think we’d be able to achieve a top three in the qualifying.”
“I knew crossing the line, was a good lap. But when they came up on the radio telling me we’re lining up the third tomorrow, it’s just an amazing feeling.” – Alpine’s driver expressed his happiness.
Gasly was also asked about the on-track conditions in what is now known as the coldest race of the entire calendar with tricky conditions always in hand to mix up the grid.
“I was getting cold in the car, that’s why we had to wait so long before we could go out on track for Q3.”
Ultimately, Gasly is hoping for a repeat of the results from Brazil which would even help his team forget the abysmal season they encountered.
