Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz said he hopes to challenge for the Formula 1 World Championship during the 2024 season.

It will be the last year for the Spaniard with the Maranello-based squad, as he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton from 2025.

Speaking after the team launch, which happened Tuesday afternoon, Sainz explained that his “main intention is simply for the car to be more drivable.”

“Have a wider window of performance and drivability. Last year we struggled in certain conditions and in certain circuits we were not as strong as we should, while in other it was very strong,” he said.

“We struggled a bit also with predictability at the start of the year, [but] we managed to improve it as the season went on.

“So yeah, just having a wider window of performance and hopefully that will make our races a bit easier,” he added.

Speaking about his expectations for 2024, the Spaniard said that the team wants “to improve all areas.”

“If we really want to challenge for the world title this year, we need to improve in every single area of the car, and that’s exactly what we’ve been trying to do on the winter and the past season, to try and improve and not leaving anything without touching it or without improving it.

“With that approach, with this mindset, this car is improving in every single area.”
