Max Verstappen said the designers at Red Bull have “pushed the limits again” when developing the car for the 2024 season.
The Milton Keynes-based squad dominated last year, with Verstappen winning the championship while they claimed the constructors trophy with the help of Sergio Perez, who finished second.
Now, as pre-season testing goes on, Red Bull seems to have kept its advantage over the rest of the teams, even with their new design philosophy for the chassis.
Verstappen revealed he was shown mockups at the end of 2023, but said that “at the time I wasn’t too concerned with that to be honest, I saw the drawings an I thought, ‘that looks nice’, but honestly I was thinking more about the upcoming holidays at the time.”
“In the end, it doesn’t matter what the car looks like. But what I do like a lot about the team is that they haven’t been conservative, and that they have pushed the limits again by changing the concept.
“I fully trust what the people in our technical team are doing. They are confident that this is better than everything else that they have tested in the wind tunnel over the winter.
“As long as it works, I don’t even care what it looks like.”
Verstappen said that teams following the design of the RB19 “was to be expected,” and that he understands “that a lot of teams go a bit toward our concept” since it was so successful last season.
“I think our technical team just sees more potential in how the car looks now, and developing in that direction compared to what we had.”
