Enrico Gualtieri, Ferrari’s Formula 1 power unit technical director, admitted that the new regulations coming into force in 2026 will prove to be a challenge for new manufacturers.

Not only Audi, but also Ford – together with Red Bull – will enter the sport as new engine producers in 2026. The world of Formula 1 is extremely complex, even for historic teams like Ferrari, and countless things need to be taken into account.

Therefore, Gualtieri said that not only producing engines under the new 2026 regulations will be tricky, but he added that it’s going to be a challenge for the new manufacturers in terms of infrastructure and logistics.

“It’s hard to say because, obviously, I’m not in their facility or their shoes,” he told Motorsport.com.

“But in the end, I think that for sure the level of complexity of this product is high. And it’s true that preparing for a brand-new project is not an easy task for anyone.

“So, I can for sure respect the job that they are doing on this, because for sure you need to learn and to create something that is not only related to design, competencies, or skill from the engineering perspective, but also logistics or infrastructure. So, they are facing an important and huge challenge as well.”
