Red Bull Sergio Perez said it was impossible to catch teammate Max Verstappen’s lap time at the qualifying session for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Perez will start tomorrow’s race from third place, behind leader Verstappen and second-placed Charles Leclerc from Ferrari.
The Mexican had a difficult start to Q3 and admitted he was unable to improve for his final flying lap.
“I didn’t get much of an improvement on the final lap, which is I think why we missed the first row,” he said in the post-session interview.
“Max has done a tremendous lap, that was not possible for me today.
“I think being in the front row was achievable, but we’re still in the fight for tomorrow, it’s going to be a long race.”
Speaking about Saturday and the fight the the rest of the top teams, Perez said that “it will be quite interesting, it will be a long, fun race.”
“There will be plenty of action, the cars around us are very close, so it will be a very interesting battle.”
