Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton is unhappy with the team performance during the first two practice sessions at the Australian Grand Prix.
Hamilton struggled throughout both sessions, unlike teammate George Russell. The 7-time World Champion, who will be racing at Ferrari from the 2025 season, said he “didn’t feel great out there.”
“We began the day on the front foot and in FP1, the car generally felt good. The first run was actually the best the car has felt so far this year,” he said.
However, things went south during the second practice session, when a new set-up implemented on the Briton’s car worsened things.
“We made some big changes into FP2 and unfortunately, that made the car worse,” Hamilton admitted.
“It was tough but there are positives we can take from the first session. We will be working hard overnight to make improvements ahead of tomorrow.”
This is just another one to be added to Hamilton’s growing list of frustrations with the Silver Arrows.
The number 44 had complained on his team’s performance after the Bahrain Grand Prix, saying it was hash to be facing the same issues they have been going through since the introduction of the new technical regulations.
Andrew Shovlin, trackside engineering director, said “Lewis felt that we had gone in the wrong direction with our changes” during FP2.
“Frustratingly, they weren’t quick to unwind so he had to live with that throughout the session.
“Overall, it’s clear that we’ve got work to do overnight to improve the car.”
