Ferrari seemed to struggle in China compared to the previous races of the season, and Frederic Vasseur said he expected more pace, but the aim is to now focus on improving for Miami.
After a difficult qualifying, Ferrari knew that the race would be difficult, but it didn’t expect to struggle so much. Despite that, Vasseur said the team needs to put its head down and keep working.
“We weren’t starting in a good position, but I expected more in terms of pace. We clearly lacked pace today, and we have to understand why. We’ll have to improve for the next race.
“It wasn’t an easy event. We have to do a better job, and we’ll be back in Miami. I think Charles had a strange race because we wanted to go for two stops and then one. We were a bit in between pushing and saving tires and in the end, we paid the price. But it is what it is.
“We had a decent pace on Saturday, not too far from Red Bull. However, today it was much more difficult and we need to understand why.”
Finally, Vasseur added that he hopes the conditions will be different in Miami, but the gap is still very tight behind Max Verstappen.
“I hope so,” he said when asked if he hopes to have different conditions in Miami. “But it’s only the beginning of the season, behind Max is very, very tight. We have to avoid making predictions and just be focused on the job and do better than this weekend.”
