Carlos Sainz has lost his P4 finish at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix after being handed a post-race penalty by the stewards.
Sainz was being investigated after colliding with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, causing the Australian front wing damage, which forced him to box and drop down the timing sheets during the fight for fourth.
The incident was then placed under investigation, and the stewards decided to penalize Sainz with a five-second time penalty after the conclusion of the Grand Prix.
The Spaniard was “predominantly to blame” for the collision, the stewards said after issuing the time penalty, together with 1 penalty point.
The situation means Sainz has been dropped to P5 in the final classification of the race, with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez moving up.
