Lewis Hamilton has topped the second practice session of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Spain, ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and McLaren’s Lando Norris.
It was a calm session with no incidents. The 7-time World Champion dominated the timing sheets by 0.22s to homeboy Sainz, and 0.55s to fellow British driver Norris.
The Williams had a disastrous session, as they struggled throughout the circuit and failed to achieve anything but the last two spots of the timing charts, with Logan Sargeant in P20, 1.806s slower than Hamilton, and Alexander Albon in P19 by 1.543s to the top.
Sauber, on the other hand, had mixed results – China’s Guanyu Zhou struggled and placed the 17th fastest time of the session, while teammate Valtteri Bottas managed a P10 lap, 0.660s to the lead, ahead of both Haas’s of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg respectively.
Another team that’s had a session to forget was RB F1. The Red Bull sister team placed P15 and P16 with Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo respectively, exposing how the Faenza-based squad continues to struggle adapting as the season progresses.
Ferrari was led, as mentioned, by Carlos Sainz in P2. Meanwhile, teammate Charles Leclerc placed the 6th fastest time of the session, 0.333s ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
Reigning champion Max Verstappen was just ahead of the Monegasque in P5, while his teammate Sergio Perez poorly performed and finished in P13 ahead of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso. Though, this is only practice…
The F1 weekend continues tomorrow with FP3.
