Lando Norris admitted that his bad start cost him the win at the Spanish GP, as he felt McLaren was the quickest team around the Montmeló circuit.
After scoring an incredible pole position on Saturday, just 0.020s ahead of Max Verstappen, Norris couldn’t capitalize during the race and only managed to finish second behind his Dutch rival.
Norris dropped back to P3 right before turn 1 and McLaren tried to play a different strategy compared to Red Bull. Their gamble didn’t work out as well as they hoped, as Norris only managed to finish 2 seconds behind Verstappen.
“Not good, I should have done [won the race],” Norris said regarding his race.
“I got a bad start, simple as that. The car was incredible today. I think we were, for sure, the quickest. I just lost it in the beginning.
“I’m disappointed, but a lot of positives, one negative and that kind of ruined everything. I know that I can just work on it for next time.
“But apart from that, a good amount of points, and big thanks to the team because the car was amazing.”
Norris added that he is already thinking about the upcoming races, Austria and Silverstone. He admitted that he likes those venues, and he usually performs well there, therefore he is excited about the next two races.
“Austria and Silverstone are two of my favorite tracks in terms of [previous] performances and where I perform well at,” he said.
“I’m excited. We’re on a good role. We’re doing well, I need to just tidy up a few little bits and I’ll be on top.”
