McLaren’s Lando Norris set a benchmark on Friday’s Free Practice 2 for the Hungarian GP.
Hungarian Grand Prix’s second free practice started with Haas’ Nico Hülkenberg who was the first driver out on track.
Everyone besides McLaren’s duo headed out on the track on medium tires. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris commenced 2nd Free Practice session on hard tires.
5 minutes into the session, Max Verstappen began to notice a problem with his Red Bull. Dutchman informed the team about potential brake issues.
Budapest’s scorching temperature surely would have resulted in overheated brake discs on Verstappen’s car.
Despite Daniel Ricciardo being the last driver to go on track, he set a lap worth of fourth position behind both Red Bulls and Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes.
20 minutes into the session, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc lost control of his SF-24 at the exit of turn 4 causing a devastating contact with the wall, ultimately resulting in the first red flag of the session to be showed up.
After losing an important time due to the wall repair, the session resumed with most of the drivers leaving a track on soft tires.
FP2’s restart was nothing but action-packed.
A minor incident between Zhou Guanyu and Sergio Perez occurred at turn 4 causing a quick yellow flag. Soon afterwards session continued under green-flag conditions.
Free Practice 2 ended up with Lando Norris at the top, followed by Red Bull’s Verstappen and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who ended up first in FP1.
Departing Haas driver Kevin Magnussen who surprised with a spectacular lap that placed him in sixth position at the end of the FP2.
