Max Verstappen was once again the fastest around the circuit of Spa, even though it was a short and rainy session. Oscar Piastri and Pierre Gasly were second and third.
The FP3 session started with rainy conditions and low temperatures. Both Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri were struggling to find grip on intermediate tires.
It was important for the drivers to go out and get some laps under their belts, since rain might affect the qualifying session, too. However, rain isn’t expected on Sunday, so the teams will have a tough day at work to decide what kind of set-up to use.
Just after ten minutes, the rain was getting heavier. Meanwhile, Verstappen set the pace, as he was 1.4s faster than Piastri in P2.
The red flag was deployed, as Lance Stroll crashed at Eau Rouge-Raidillon.
As the session resumed, nobody went out on track as the drivers waited for better conditions. Meanwhile, McLaren’s mechanics were checking Lando Norris’ car, as it seemed he went off track and might have damaged it.
McLaren then confirmed that the whole car’s floor had to be changed. The Britton was lucky the conditions were so bad that he wasn’t the only one losing time in the garage.
The stewards deployed the red flag once again as the rain was too heavy. Verstappen was still on top, with Piastri and Pierre Gasly 1.4s and 1.6s behind.
The session was resumed with only 3 minutes to go and only a few drivers went on track, but they only had time for one race start practice on the grid.
