McLaren’s Lando Norris said he his happy with his result at the United States Grand Prix despite his last-lap mishap.
Norris was chasing Verstappen for the lead for most of the Sprint race. However, going into the last lap, the British driver locked-up at Turn 1, allowing third-placed Carlos Sainz to go through.
The McLaren was then challenged by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for P3, and while Norris made another mistake halfway through the lap, the Monegasque was unable to overtake him.
Despite dropping to the last step of the podium after being in P2 for most of the session, Norris said he leaves the Sprint happy with his result.
“It was a good race, I am pretty happy with how things ended up,” he said in the post-race interview.
“It was a tough one, I thought I could hold on to second, but Carlos [Sainz] did a good job. My front tires were completely finished so there was not a lot I could do if I stayed straight or defended or not, I’m sure I would have lost out to Carlos.”
Norris was he was “disappointed at the end, but I am happy with my race and the points.”
Update / 1:53 PM (Austin, Texas): Lando Norris has been placed under investigation by the FIA for the “driving erratically” incident with Charles Leclerc on the final lap.
