McLaren gets closer to winning the constructor championship with a 1-2 finish, as Lando Norris let Oscar Piastri by on the last lap. George Russell was third, with the two Ferraris only P4 and P5.
It was a perfect start for McLaren, with Lando Norris managing to keep the lead and Oscar Piastri overtaking George Russell and getting up to P2. It wasn’t the same for Ferrari, with Carlos Sainz maintaining his P4 but Charles Leclerc going back to P6 in favor of Lewis Hamilton.
Russell wasn’t holding back, though, as he put Piastri under pressure. On lap 4, the Britton tried to dive into turn 1, but the Aussie put up a great defense.
Max Verstappen also didn’t have a great start, as he dropped back to P9, complaining about the massive oversteer he had.
The top 5 were very close together, as Norris was trying to give his teammate the DRS to help him keep Russell at bay. The slipstream effect wasn’t allowing the drivers to overtake each other, and a train of six cars had formed at the front.
On lap 13, Leclerc overtook Hamilton for P5 after almost crashing into each other. Piastri then lost DRS to Norris, and Russell tried to pass him in turn 1, but the Aussie defended the position with a late defensive move, which Russell didn’t like.
Meanwhile, Nico Hülkenberg was doing an outstanding job as he was in P7 ahead of Verstappen, who couldn’t reach him. The other Red Bull of Sergio Perez was struggling as well, as he also changed the front wing and dropped back to P20.
In the end, Norris let Piastri by in the last few meters after helping him the whole race. Russell only managed to claim the third spot on the podium. Sainz and Leclerc finished P4 and P5, with Hamilton behind. Hülkenberg was seventh and Verstappen eighth.
