McLaren CEO Zak Brown admitted that he is concerned regarding the closer partnership developing between Red Bull and AlphaTauri.
Toward the end of last season, AlphaTauri started fitting customer parts produced by Red Bull. That allowed the team to improve its performance, which had been poor for the whole year.
The fact that the two aforementioned teams will work even closer preoccupies Brown, who wants the sport to take a deeper look into the regulations.
“I believe it’s a serious issue for the fairness of the sport, for the fans. That’s why it’s pretty much not allowed in any other form of major sport.
“I’d like to see us, as an industry, focus on that before it gets to a level of being where Formula 1 once was, which is very out of balance because people are playing by the rules, but a different set of rules.”
Not only will AlphaTauri receive more parts from Red Bull, but it seems that the former team will move from Faenza (Italy) to the UK, something which Brown believes will “benefit both teams”.
“It might give someone an unfair advantage, and I think that’s something we need to tackle with the sport quickly.”
