It has been announced that Lewis Hamilton will part ways with Mercedes to join Ferrari in 2025. Mercedes team principal and CEO Toto Wolff spoke about the Brit’s decision and their relationship.
Hamilton has been part of the Mercedes family for a long time, and with them, he has rewritten history and many Formula 1 records. Like Wolff said, it was inevitable that at some point, Mercedes’ partnership with the seven-time world champion would come to an end.
Wolff also added that he is proud of the team’s relationship with Hamilton, who will always be part of the outfit’s history. However, it’s time to accept Lewis’s departure and prepare for their last season together.
“In terms of a team-driver pairing, our relationship with Lewis has become the most successful the sport has seen, and that’s something we can look back on with pride; Lewis will always be an important part of Mercedes motorsport history.
“However, we knew our partnership would come to a natural end at some point, and that day has now come. We accept Lewis’s decision to seek a fresh challenge, and our opportunities for the future are exciting to contemplate. But for now, we still have one season to go, and we are focused on going racing to deliver a strong 2024.”
